Doctor Sleep Blu-Ray To Include 3-Hour Director’s Cut

Image
Although it represented something of a financial failure for Warner Bros., Mike Flanagan’s Doctor Sleep was arguably one of the more effective of recent Stephen King adaptations. As well as paying homage to Stanley Kubrick’s  The Shining , Flanagan was also able to make the most of the best parts of King’s novel. And now, we’re getting Flanagan’s three-hour director’s cut as part of a digital release on January 21st, and a 4K Ultra HD/Blu-ray, standalone Blu-ray and DVD launch on February 4th. The theatrical cut of  Doctor Sleep was already a hefty 152 minutes, meaning that the new version will have around 30 minutes of added material. Given that Flanagan had to try to incorporate King’s lengthy novel and bulk up connections to Kubrick’s adaptation, it makes sense that a lot more footage was left on the cutting room floor. At the moment, we don’t know what the extra material will involve, although there are certainly a few areas that could be expanded. Personally, I’m hop...

Warner Bros. Announces It: Chapter Two Home Video Release Date

Image
While it didn’t perhaps achieve the critical or commercial success it was predicted to, It: Chapter Two   remains one of the biggest releases of the year. The Stephen King adaptation, which may still get a follow-up  now has a home video release date, and it’s surprisingly soon. It: Chapter Two will be available on digital platforms from November 19th, and will then be released via 4K, DVD and Blu-Ray Combo Packs on December 10th. The quick release is likely due to Warner Bros. wanting to capitalize on the continued prominence of the sequel in the public eye, and to push through pre-Christmas sales for one of its major titles of 2019. Pre-orders are already available at major retail and streaming outlets ahead of the November release, while a special steelbook edition can also be found via Best Buy. In terms of special features, there’ll be a number of audio-visual enhancements to the film’s cinematic version. Most notably, the 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray comes with Dolby Vis...

Here’s Your First Look At Batman In Superman: Red Son Animated Movie

Image
Now that Batman: Gotham by Gaslight has opened the door for various other Elseworlds tales to be adapted as animated films, Superman: Red Son will be the first to follow in its footsteps. To be quite honest, this doesn’t come as much of a surprise because the limited series written by Mark Millar and illustrated by Dave Johnson has long remained one of the most popular in the line, not to mention DC fans demanding this become a reality for years. To briefly sum up what that story entailed for those unfamiliar, what you need to know going into your first viewing of the animated flick is that it explored that possibility of baby Kal-El’s rocket landing in Soviet Russia instead of in Smallville, Kansas. As you can imagine, the Comrade of Steel had a very different upbringing than the hero we’ve come to know otherwise. What’s also exciting about the material was how it put new spins on other DC icons including Wonder Woman, Lex Luthor, Green Lantern and, of course, Batman. Hot on the h...

Supergirl: The Complete Fourth Season Now Available On Blu-ray

Image
Even with the fall TV season almost upon us, there are still a few DC TV home video releases to discuss. As of today, Supergirl: The Complete Fourth Season is finally available for purchase on Blu-ray, and we’re here to go over the finer points. For those not caught up, know that once you begin viewing this latest set, you’ll witness a season unlike previous offerings. In short, Kara Zor-El (Melissa Benoist) must now contend with the newest big bad in National City, that being Agent Liberty. Though the political subtext that ensued proved to be too much for a number of viewers, know that Smallville alum Sam Witwer brought his A-game to his latest villainous role. Even if you wind up disagreeing with him, the producers make sure you understand his perspective entirely. Truth be told, it could be argued that Lex Luthor is the true big bad here. Despite appearing in only three episodes total, he’s revealed to be the mastermind comic book readers love to hate. In my view, that trio of ...
